D’argentique (à savoir une image obtenue par l’action de la lumière sur une surface sensible), la photo devient numérique. Dans un premier temps, on numérise les photos imprimées au moyen d’un scanner. Dans un deuxième temps, au début des années 2000, les appareils photo numériques deviennent monnaie courante, avec stockage des photos sur une carte mémoire intégrée à l’appareil.
